Marylands gaming establishments generated a substantial $143.8 million in revenue during September 2018, representing a notable 6.9% increase over the corresponding period in 2017. This impressive performance positioned September as the fourth most lucrative month for the state’s gambling sector.
Four of the six casinos experienced growth, with MGM National Harbor, the state’s top earner, spearheading the surge with a 10.3% rise, reaching an impressive $54.4 million. Ocean Downs Casino in Ocean City followed closely, registering a 13.9% jump to achieve $7.5 million.
However, the trend was not uniform. Rocky Gap Casino Resort and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore witnessed minor declines, recording a 1.3% and 1.6% decrease, respectively.
This wave of casino prosperity resulted in a significant $59.5 million tax contribution to the state, with a substantial portion allocated to the Education Trust Fund. The remaining funds are designated for community enhancement projects and supporting Marylands equine racing sector.
