Andrew Green, a Lincolnshire-based gambler who frequents Betfred, has emerged victorious after a protracted three-year legal dispute with the gaming establishment. The dispute centered around a £1.7 million (equivalent to $2.3 million) prize that was initially withheld from him. Betfred asserted that the win was a consequence of a technical glitch; however, High Court Justice Mrs. Justice Foster delivered a verdict in Green’s favor.
Green is slated to receive the entirety of his winnings, supplemented by accrued interest. Betfred has indicated that it will not pursue an appeal against the judgment.
“The intervening period has been fraught with challenges for both myself and my loved ones, marked by a tumultuous emotional journey,” Green conveyed through a prepared statement. “My well-being has been significantly compromised, and there were instances where I questioned the desirability of the win altogether, given the relentless strain it has imposed.”
“However, today brings an overwhelming sense of relief, akin to a massive burden being lifted. I am both overjoyed and vindicated – not only for myself but also for my family and the legal professionals who have stood by me. The time for celebratory libations has finally arrived.”
Green’s stroke of luck occurred in 2018 while engaging in a game of Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven Blackjack. A mere few days later, Betfred reached out to Green, informing him that his winnings were being nullified due to a software anomaly within the gaming apparatus.
At that juncture, Green had already expended upwards of £2,500 in celebratory expenses. Betfred’s initial attempt at resolution involved a £60,000 offer in exchange for Green’s agreement to remain silent on the matter, a proposition he declined.
In the year 2019, a man named Andy Green filed a lawsuit against the betting firm Betfred. Green alleged that the company acted unjustly regarding a software malfunction that occurred in a game developed by Playtech. This technical issue arose in 2018 and, according to Green, resulted in him suffering four cardiac arrests!
Betfred countered, stating that the game Green participated in did not properly restart as intended, which is why he secured such a substantial prize. They maintained that this type of software error was addressed within their terms of service.
Nevertheless, Judge Foster ruled in favor of Mr. Green, declaring that Betfred’s assertions lacked merit.
