The Show-Me State is inching closer to making sports wagering legal! A quartet of proposals have been forwarded to the Missouri House of Representatives’ Emerging Issues Committee. This signifies that they are being given serious consideration.

One of these proposals, House Bill 1024, would authorize both online and in-person sports betting at the state’s riverboat gambling establishments. This proposal was presented in February 2021 by Rep. Cody Smith.

The proposal includes some fairly standard regulations for sports betting, such as only permitting it at licensed venues and prohibiting individuals from wagering on minors or vulnerable populations. It also stipulates that sports betting platforms would be required to pay a 6.25% tax on their earnings and a $50,000 annual charge.

It appears that Missouri is preparing to join the expanding roster of states with legalized sports betting!
