The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and media organization theScore both advocate for the legalization of wagering on individual sporting events in Canada.
At present, Section 207(4)(b) of the Canadian Criminal Code forbids placing bets on single games or occurrences, permitting only wagers on a minimum of three events or more.
However, Bill C-218 (also known as the Secure and Regulated Sports Betting Act) introduced by Conservative MP Kevin Waugh aims to modify this. The bill, which received its initial reading in the House of Commons in February, seeks to revoke Section 207(4)(b) of the Criminal Code, thereby enabling betting on individual games.
BCLC and theScore are now also backing this initiative, hoping to legalize wagering on single sporting events in British Columbia and the broader Canadian market.
