Glitnor Group has declared the selection of Richard Brown, the head of Gaming Innovation Group (GiG), as its new chief executive officer.

Brown will officially assume the leadership role in January of 2024, succeeding David Flynn who stepped down from his position last December. Co-founder Jorgen Nordlund has been acting as the temporary head.

As the chief executive, Brown will guide Glitnor’s ongoing expansion plans, which include broadening its online gambling operations and game development studios across Europe, North America, and Latin America.

Brown has been a part of GiG for seven and a half years, with a significant portion of that time spent as the chief executive, a position he has held since November 2019. Before that, he served as the chief operating officer, chief digital officer, and managing director at GiG Media.

Brown’s early career involved various positions at Highlight Media Group, and he also worked at Web Guide Partner and THG Sports.

“I am privileged to accept the role of chief executive of Glitnor Group,” stated Brown. “The team has established a very strong presence within the industry. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with them to further leverage the numerous opportunities that lie ahead for the company.

“The group’s long-term objectives are impressive, and its founders have a proven track record of success.”

Its truly thrilling to contribute positively towards achieving these objectives for the company, team members, and stakeholders.

Nordlund, a co-founder, stated: “By appointing Richard, I believe Glitnor has secured one of the top executive-level talents in the industry. I anticipate a positive impact on our business as we strive to strengthen our brand and enter more markets in the future.

“Given his successful experience at GiG and the abundance of online gambling expertise he possesses, I am certain that Richard has all the necessary abilities to help Glitnor reach new heights.

“I believe I speak for everyone when I say we are enthusiastic to work with him as we enter our next phase of growth.”

“The Time is Right” to Depart GiG
Brown’s appointment was confirmed after he revealed last month that he would be leaving GiG at the end of 2023.

During his tenure as CEO, the group continued to expand into new markets, completed significant acquisitions, sold its consumer-to-consumer assets to Betsson, and generated record revenue in the first quarter of 2023.

His departure followed a strategic review that could lead to GiG being divided into two separate business entities. The affiliate division GiG Media, led by CMO Jonas Warrer, will continue to operate under its current leadership, meaning the platform and sports betting business is searching for a new CEO.

Reflecting on his time at GiG, Brown stated that while he enjoyed working for the group, “the time is right” to take on new challenges.

Im thankful for my eight incredible years at GiG, the past four as Chief Executive Officer,” Brown stated. “However, it’s time for me to embrace a fresh challenge, and I believe this will be one of the most thrilling businesses in the gaming sector.

“I’m truly enthusiastic to begin in the new year.”
